Many of us believe in washing our faces numerous times a day especially if we have oily skin and especially in the summer. What many of us are not aware of is the fact that washing the face too many times washes away the natural oils of the skin. This makes the skin dry and prone to wrinkles and fine lines. Even if you have an oily skin and believe that your skin will produce the necessary oils again, it is not so. It is advisable not to wash your face numerous times a day, as it is impossible for the skin to rejuvenate itself so fast.
With summer setting it, the dirt and grime increases and with that the sweat. We feel the urge to wash our face many times during the day to keep feeling fresh. But, this is the wrong way to go. Feeling fresh is important but we can apply other tactics as well. If you feel that your skin is too oily all you should do is take a blotting paper and dab it on your face, especially the T-zone. This absorbs the excess oil while not taking away too much from the skin. It works like magic. Another good way of making sure that the skin does not look greasy is to soak a swab of cotton in toner and dabbing it on your face.
Dermatologists say that you should wash your face only twice a day. During summers you can wash your face thrice a day, but no more than that.
After washing your face in the morning make sure you apply toner on your face. That’s the first thing you should do. It keeps the skin tight and the pores small. Do not forget the sunscreen as a part of your daily routine in the morning before going out. The sunscreen should be of SPF 35 and above. Even if you are using make-up do not forget the sunscreen. The make-up will not protect you from the sun. All it does is enhance your natural features. Too much exposure to the sun rays can make your skin look dull, and raise the risks of wrinkles at a young age. And, also remember to apply the sunscreen as the first layer on your skin. It has to be applied directly onto the skin as it needs to be absorbed by the skin to work its magic. If applying make-up make sure to wait up to 5 minutes after applying the sun screen. But, if you are using a BB cream then you can skip the sunscreen as the BB cream contains sunscreen.
After returning in the evening you should wash your face and apply a light moisturizer, preferably something which is water based. The night routine for the skin is extremely important. We should make sure that the skin is not too dry before going to sleep. It is extremely important for the skin to remain hydrated through the night, as this is the time that your body as well as your skin rejuvenates itself. For those with oily skin it is advisable to use a hydrating gel mask or a light night cream. This ensures that the skin remains hydrated while not producing too much oil during the night.
Scrubbing the skin is important as well. It helps to remove the dead cells and expose the newer cells. But too much scrubbing can again be a problem. Scrubbing should be done once a week, and it is advisable to use a natural scrub rather than the ones available in the market. Gram flour mixed with curd can be used as a face pack. The gram flour works as a scrub helping to remove black heads as well, and the curd works as a natural tan remover. Another good scrub that can be made at home is the lemon and sea salt scrub. Sea salt is one of the best scrubbers for the skin. And lemon juice helps to remove tan and blemishes from the skin.

- You should use a gentle non-foaming face wash, preferably use gel based face washes.
- Make sure that you don’t scrub your face too much while washing it. It is advisable to use only the tips of your finger to work the face wash on your skin. Over-exfoliating the skin can cause more harm than good.
- Wash your face with lukewarm water, never use hot water as it can eliminate the natural oils from your skin.
