Millions of people (including you!) have enjoyed Green Tea for years owing to its numerous health benefits. But had you any idea that it may have adverse effects on your health?
As reported by a new study on fruit flies, researchers have found Green Tea to have adverse affects on health if taken in high doses.
Researchers recently discovered that the excessive consumption of Green tea adversely affected their development and reproduction. However it is ambiguous whether it could have the same impact on humans. Though following the fact that Nutraceuticals such as green tea have been found to be largely unregulated,it won’t be much surprising if it showed similar results on humans as well.
Researchers investigated the effects of green tea toxicity on flies. They found that larvae exposed to 10 milligrams of green tea were slower to develop, were born smaller and discovered a significant decline in the number of emerged offspring !
Morphological abnormalities such as testicular and ovarian atrophy were also caused in reproductive organs. In other tests with rats and dog, researchers also found green tea compounds in large amounts to have reduced their body weight, and in mice it even negatively affected embryo development.
